Many Debt Help Websites are Lead Brokers
Be very, very wary of any websites that offer to reveal their debt repair or credit repair secrets in exchange for your personal information. In most cases these websites will not have a phone number to call, especially a TOLL FREE phone number. They'll simply ask you to fill out their form and await a phone call from their "Trained Professionals," that do not actually exist.
Lead Brokers are Parasites That Sell Your Personal Information!
These people work very hard at not having to work. When you enter your personal debt information on these sites, you're giving your private data to a lead broker who in turn sells your personal information to any and every debt consolidation company that wants to purchase it. They are parasites that perform no useful service.
Do Not Be Fooled by Lead Brokers
These lead brokers are clever. In fact, on some sites they even admit that they are not a debt settlement company or a debt consolidation company -- they will extol the virtues of their fully automated system that matches your situation to the ideal debt repair service. These are lies. They gather your data and then sell it, over and over again, to different debt related companies.
Look for a TOLL FREE Phone Number and Call!
Beware these scam debt help sites. Look for a TOLL FREE phone number and call it! Ask them what they do. Ask which debt service they perform -- Debt Settlement or Debt Consolidation. If the person that answers the phone stumbles over his or her words or will not reveal precisely what it is that their business does, then hang up and DO NOT enter any of your information into their website's forms.
Debt Consolidation Lead Brokers Cloaked in Christian Altruism
One particular debt consolidation website, which at this writing is the #1 site for the term "debt consolidation" on Google (Google is not infallible), is nothing more than a lead broker. This site promotes the illusion of being a Christian debt relief oriented organization through the display of a dove as their logo.
Their site is filled with biblical images like a shepherd on their Debt Samaritan Club page. They also have a "Community" that they encourage you to join as well as this "Debt Samaritan Club." These wonderful "Christians," after gathering your information, then turn around and sell your name and phone number to the debt consolidation companies who pay top dollar for leads. They do state that your information is sent to a third party, they just do not tell you how much money they make off of your personal information, and they cloak their entire con game with the guise of Christian altruism.
These guys even provide a toll free 800 number to call, AND they plainly state (if you can find the page):
"Our system matches you with the company which can best fulfill your needs. The company is chosen from the ranking chart and the feedbacks that other people just like you have given over the years about this company. This matching is done automatically without any human intervention. So you can be free of privacy concerns."
What these altruistic people don't fully disclose in the paragraph above is that they're making lots of money selling your personal information to "...the company which can best fulfill your needs."
This website goes even further in attempting to collect your personal data. They misrepresent exactly what debt consolidation can accomplish in terms of reducing your existing debt. In other words, they are lying. "Why are the creditors willing to negotiate?
Once the creditors come to know from the counselors that you have signed for debt consolidation, in most cases the debt amounts are reduced to a mammoth 40% - 60% and there is complete elimination of late charges and limit charges. The amount of debt reduction usually depends on how well the credit counseling firm could negotiate with your creditor. It also depends on the good will and reputation of the firm you are linked with. It also depends on how far the creditors trust them personally. We are the leaders in debt bargaining and our reputation is commendable nationwide. Your account is re-aged to show that you are updated and regular with your payments."
Debt Consolidation does not negotiate your debt amount balance down. If a website claims that debt consolidation will lower your debt by 40% to 60% they are lying.
